Gig Harbor(ish)

Posted by in 11 Aug, 2006

Today, TB (The Boyfriend) and I visited Karen and her extensive family near Gig Harbor, WA. Below are just a few of our furry friends:

After lunch at a local restaurant (the name of which I won’t even attempt to spell), TB, Karen, and I walked around Gig Harbor for a little while, stopping at an antique store and a dessert cafe.

The weather was fabulous, and TB and I always enjoying hanging out with Karen and the babies.

A tree dies in Ballard (or: One advantage to living above street level)

A car died about three blocks away from where I live. As the driver pushed the car out of the intersection–along a slight downhill grade–the vehicle took off on its own. The car came to rest in the corner garden of my apartment building, mortally wounding a pine tree. Fortunately, the tree stopped the car from hitting the building; the first floor tenant wasn’t home; the driver wasn’t seriously hurt; and I live a couple of floors above where the incident occurred.

Bellevue

Bellevue has lots to see, too. Interesting architecture, a great park, an art museum, and tons of shopping.

Some of my favorite Seattle things: Restaurants

Araya’s offers delicious Thai food — 100% vegetarian, 99% vegan. (Araya’s makes their Thai Iced Tea and Thai Iced Coffee with either half-and-half or coconut milk.) Try the lunch buffet; you’ll get lots of variety for not a lot of money. Today (7/27/06), I paid $11.20 for the buffet and a Thai Iced Coffee. My favorites include the spring rolls, steamed veggies with peanut sauce, fried rice, curried veggies, and black sticky rice pudding with coconut sauce.

Apparently these flowers did something very, very bad.

What is it with the fish in this town?

Posted by in 26 Jul, 2006

[thumb:265:c:l=p]

Is this: 1) A club where fish can go to hang out with other fish and perhaps other marine creatures? 2) Where people go to buy an anti-theft device for their fish, similar to The Club for cars? 3) A device for punishing naughty fish? 4) Yet another Seattle seafood spot?

Judging by this sign, I’m guessing the first sign is for either #2 or #3. Fish. You just can’t trust ’em.

Now you, too, can put the image of Jesus on baked goods, etc. It’s sinfully easy with the The Jesus Pan!

Signs of the times

Posted by in 21 Jun, 2006

I saw these bumper stickers recently on a truck in Ballard. I don’t know who owns the truck (or the stickers), but I bet she/he is a kick!

[thumb:238:c:l=p]

I saw this one a few weeks ago in Eugene, OR, and didn’t get a chance to snap a pic: “Overpopulation: How dense can you get?”

And a sign on the door to a commercial building in Berkeley, CA (I did get a picture of this one … a very blurry picture, not worth posting): “This is not a bathroom!!! You are being video taped! It will be turned over to the police.” I can think of a few downtown Seattle locations that might benefit from this sign.

You’ll just have to take my word for the ones without photographic evidence.
